Art & Deco
I was tasked with updating an old, late 1960s wet bar with an original leather padded armrest (and I am sure lots of stories to tell). Located in the centre of the home with a large hallway leading up to it, it was important to find a balance between making the bar cohesive with the rest of the home and not screaming an obvious bar theme, while allowing the space to have its own personality.
The clients are a family with two teenage children, busy careers and full schedules. They enjoy their time at home, hosting parties, out of town friends and annual celebrations. Certain weekends, the bar is used as much as the kitchen, so we opted for durable materials to provide lots of storage and withstand wine and lime juice. To tie the bar into the hallway, millwork was carried along the wall to be used for storage and display. Wallpaper was added on the walls to balance off the dark millwork.
